Game Report: Solent Amazons 2 – Chelmsford Pythons 1

Sunday night’s game saw the Solent Amazons face the Chelmsford Pythons in another thrilling Women’s National Ice Hockey League matchup, and what a battle it was!

We were delighted to welcome back #79 Lauren Kenton to the lineup.

Just minutes into the opening period, Louise Beresford won the faceoff to Jess Banner and off to Lauren Denness, who fired the puck home to give the Amazons an early 1–0 lead.

The Amazons controlled much of the first period, moving the puck well and generating plenty of chances, but Chelmsford’s goaltender stood tall to keep it a one-goal game.

In the second period, the Pythons began to find their rhythm. A strong two-on-one chance from Lou Beresford and Jess Banner came close, but moments later Lou took a penalty, giving Chelmsford the power play. The visitors capitalised, tipping in a neat shot to equalise at 1–1.

The third period was a tense one, with both teams battling hard and goaltenders at each end making key saves to keep things level.

Midway through the period, Emma Hutton, who had a standout performance, burst down the wing and slid a perfect pass to Lou Beresford in the slot, Lou made no mistake, backhanding the puck over the goalie’s pads to restore the Amazons lead.

The closing minutes were edge of your seat hockey, but the Amazons’ defence held firm through a 2 minute penalty and the final minutes to secure a 2–1 win and all two points.

A great team effort, disciplined play, and a well-earned victory for the Amazons!
