Solent Amazons Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year the Amazons are proud to partner with Breast Cancer Now to help raise awareness, show support, and fund life-changing research.

What We’re Doing

We’ll be hosting two special “Breast Cancer Awareness” themed home games this season:

• Sunday 5th October vs Oxford Midnight Stars (face-off 18:15) Sponsored by Gary Sharp

• Sunday 19th October vs Chelmsford Pythons (face-off 18:15) Sponsor this game for £100

At these matches, we’ll be fundraising in support of Wear It Pink Day, encouraging fans, players, and the community to don pink, donate, and share the message.

Our aim? To bring together hockey and community, and use our platform to support a cause that affects so many lives.

Why It Matters

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the UK. Early detection and support services are absolutely critical in saving lives and ensuring those affected can live well during and after treatment.

The Wear It Pink campaign, run by Breast Cancer Now, encourages individuals and groups to wear pink, host pink-themed events, and raise money for essential breast cancer research and support services.

In 2025, Wear It Pink Day is officially on 24 October, but many groups (like us!) take part earlier in the month or tie it into their own events. 

By hosting our awareness games in early October, we hope to build momentum, invite conversation, and give our fans and community a chance to engage with this important cause.

What You Can Do

Here are some ways supporters and visitors can get involved:

• Wear PINK to our games: pink scarves, shirts, ribbons, whatever you have

• Donate at the game: we’ll have a collection point at the merch stand

• Share & spread awareness: on social media before, during, and after the matches

• Learn and share the signs: of breast cancer (know your body, and check regularly)

• Register your own Wear It Pink events: Breast Cancer Now offers free fundraising packs and resources
